Having gained experience in studio portraiture before wedding photography, I revisited the photography studio again recently. The lighting and conditions available at a wedding are entirely different and the wedding photographer generally relies on natural light with some diffused on-camera flash where necessary. Visit my online wedding gallery for examples. In the studio however, control over where the light hits the subject and how strong it is lies entirely in the hands of the photographer.
I wanted to focus on old-Hollywood, when digital imaging was not available and they couldn’t rely on post-photography touch ups. In those days, the lighting simply had to flatter and create a flawless finish. Classic beauty lighting is an art to get right but the results are beautiful, feminine and fashion forward, whilst also giving a classic retro feel which is very ‘40’s glamour’. I love it.
The model here happens also to be my mum, who defies her 59 years and looks amazing in a range of styles. She’s also a very competent make-up artist providing bridal make-up and will be working with Mirror Imaging on future makeover photo shoots. I’m sure you’ll agree the results are stunning and provide a preview of the exciting services we’ll be able to offer in the future.
