“When I first started looking for a wedding photographer I used Google and Sarah’s website was one of the first ones I looked at. I fell in love with her pictures and the fact she did Queensberry albums was a huge plus. From the very beginning Sarah like myself is very organised (I am a control freak and to me it was very important I had someone I could trust would be as organised as me - I met my match!). Not long after filling out a form on her website she called me and we had the first chat. I initially went with a bridesmaid and just instantly felt at home with Sarah. She is one of the nicest people you could meet. Her studio is such a calm beautiful setting where she showed me through different pictures she'd taken. I was sold! The meetings leading up to the wedding were brilliant she made us feel relaxed prior to the big day especially my husband-to-be who was very nervous. She was very organised and provided us with a running order for the day which was for me a brilliant touch as everyone knew exactly what was happening when and for someone as organised as I was with the wedding it was very important to me, it meant on the actual day I just relaxed.

The photographs of our wedding day are just amazing we were so very pleased with them. I remember first seeing a few on honeymoon and just being amazed that they were of us! Going to her studio and seeing them all put together as a story book was just amazing. They really told the story of the day perfectly.

What I believe makes the wedding pictures Sarah takes so much better than the vast majority of wedding photographers is that she really cares and she loves what she does and that she is a perfectionist – standing against the window on a little window seat to get the perfect shot! Her perfection is shown in the attention to detail that she puts into everything from the initial consultation through to the schedule through to creating the story of the wedding. Our wedding album is like a story book it tells the day perfectly, the attention to detail that is shown in our album is amazing. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how it’s a work of art! Not only is she a talented photographer she is also a wonderful person it was a joy having her photograph our wedding pictures.”

Following on from the series of my clients' wonderful comments in response to The Wedding Industry Awards, here's another gorgeous one! You can also read previous comments from last Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I really can't praise Mirror Imaging enough. The images that Sarah captures are stunning and we are absolutely delighted with the memories we have to treasure of our day as a result. The images speak for themselves, but what they don't tell is the huge amount of effort Sarah and her assistant Susan put in before the wedding. They made us feel like our day was the most important in the world.

The engagement shoot was really fun and put us at ease for the big day. We weren't used to being in front of the camera so it was great to have a practice run. Their attention to detail in planning the timings of the day, getting to know us and what was important to capture on the day was amazing. They were an absolute pleasure to have around on the day and ensured we got the shots we wanted despite one of our other suppliers turning up late and putting us behind schedule. The mixture of formal and reportage shots was spot on and the moments and details captured are testament to Sarah's talent as a photographer. Sarah posted some of the photographs on her blog and Facebook very quickly after the wedding so were able to view them whilst on honeymoon and share the link with friends and family, which was lovely. She also made a full online gallery available to us and our guests upon our return.

After the wedding we met at the Mirror Imaging studio where Sarah ran a slide show of our images to music over a glass of wine and we chatted for ages about the wedding and our honeymoon. We recently collected the gorgeous Queensberry Album that Sarah had designed for us - again an art in itself. I would highly recommend Mirror Imaging to future bride and grooms.”

Yesterday I wrote about my brides and grooms' feedback for the 2012 Wedding Industry Awards. I'm blogging your amazing comments individually. Here's the second one...

“Sarah is an amazing person as well as a brilliant photographer. When I first met Sarah she was so lovely and had a skill of making you feel very at ease. Sarah always does an engagement photo shoot, included in your package, so you can meet, chat and get used to having your photograph taken. I was absolutely dreading this as I'm well known with family and friends for always having my eyes shut or I look like I'm chewing a wasp! Sarah made me and my husband Dave feel remarkably at ease during the whole photo shoot. She personally chose a beautiful garden in a local B&B and knew exactly what sort of look she wanted us to create. She guided us through each pose and photo and gave us so much advice that we both thoroughly enjoyed the session. When I then saw the pictures I just couldn't believe what she had produced. The quality and the clearness of the pictures, all the different poses, and natural looks she'd asked us to do came out so perfectly. The detail of the background of the pictures, all the flowers etc made the pictures stunning. The comments I had from family and friends were overwhelming with praise.

Then it came to the wedding photos, all the way along Sarah was there, always happy to help and offer advice, she structured the wedding day for the photos, which was a great help to me with not really knowing where to start. She was so helpful on the day itself and took pictures of my jewellery, flowers etc. without me realising it as I was getting ready. Again, the quality and the content of the pictures are outstanding; she has a way of capturing the very best of you and bringing it to life in the picture. I can't tell you how happy we are with the photos and wouldn't hesitate in recommending her to anyone.

She truly does deserve this award, especially all the behind the scenes work she does to make your wedding pictures just perfect. Sarah is so easygoing and easy to get on with and that makes you want to do anything you can to help her capture that special picture. I can't praise her enough for what she did and I have no idea of how skilled she really must be to do what she does.”

I was recently delighted to find out I'd been shortlisted for the 2o12 Wedding Industry Awards in the wedding photography category. I was truly overwhelmed by my clients who provided some amazing testimonials with their votes, many of which were incredibly emotional to read! My appreciation goes to every one who voted, I can't thank you enough. I want to shout some of the testimonials from the rooftops! I've decided instead to blog your anonymous comments individually accompanied by an image that may or may not be from the same wedding. So here's the first one...

“To us choosing a photographer to capture our treasured memories of such a special day was so important and the most difficult decision to make, especially when we had no recommendations from which to choose. My Mum spent hours over a period of weeks searching the internet for photographers in our area and chose Mirror Imaging having been very impressed by the very professional website and prompt informative return call. Sarah was the first on our list of three photographers to visit and during that meeting I know we had already made our decision way before we even left the studio. We cancelled the rest of our visits on our return home. From that first meeting Sarah put us at our ease, especially myself who was very nervous of being photographed. Having the photographs of our engagement not only helped Sarah get to know us but really helped us feel at ease in her presence and the following photos let us know we had made the right decision. We truly appreciated how she listened to us and any requests we had. She provided us with inspiration not only for photographic ideas but also with little details and ideas to help the whole day run smoothly.

Having Sarah plan the timings of the morning/day was a godsend and we cannot thank both Sarah and Susan enough for the way they kept us calm throughout the morning. Even when the bridal bouquet was left behind, they kept us on time and delivered the photography in such a personal manner that we felt they had been known to the family for a long time rather that new professional acquaintances. During the day Sarah became almost invisible, but professional when needed to organise groups for us. Sarah’s friendly and professional manner was commented on by many of our wedding guests following our wedding. Our quests also loved the special touch of the contact cards with our engagement photograph for them to view the photos following the wedding and have loved the opportunity to see some of the photos so soon after the wedding on her blog.

For us we cannot thank Sarah and Susan enough for all their care and help on the day. Both Sarah and Susan felt to us that they were apart of our special day rather than a provider and on our visit to see the final photos reminded us of things we had forgotten which made it truly personal. Throughout the whole day Sarah and Susan were exceptionally attentive noticing if I was anxious, from finding someone to take care of my rabbit amongst the morning excitement, to cleaning my dress from accidental spills and brushing my hair before the welcoming line up. She had done research first and found the most wonderful place in the grounds for some of the photos.

The photographic memories that she has provided us with are truly wonderful. After seeing the photographs placed on her blog we were very excited to see the final collection and we were not disappointed they were amazing. She has captured our day in the most stunning but personal way and to see how happy our quests were to share our day is something we will always have to treasure. I can highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a creative and professional photographer in fact my sister was so impressed with how Sarah works, her professionalism, her attention to detail that she has just booked her for the photographer for her wedding next September as she said that she ‘doesn’t trust anyone else to capture our personalities and memories on our special day’.”

Zoe & Anthony's Wedding Day

Zoe and Anthony were married on Saturday 22nd October at Keyworth Church and held their reception at nearby Carriage Hall in Plumtree. The day started at Zoe's parents, with Susan at Pretty Flamingo doing Zoe's makeup and Melanie Rhodes styling hair. Zoe's theme was Autumn, with a generous reference to Anthony's love of cycling, and the whole day was so beautifully thought out, from the autumnal flowers, to the tweed accessories, to the home-grown pumpkins outside the Carriage Hall like a wonderful harvest festival display. Zoe makes hand-made cards and produces stationery too, with her company name being Spotty N Stripy, and her creative touch was in the order of services, menus and escort cards, with polka dots featuring throughout the wedding (even on her gorgeous bespoke dress and fascinator). One of the best things about Zoe's theme was that I was able tie it in so beautifully with the photographs, and I'd planned out the very best backdrops to pull in those gorgeous Autumn colours. We also lucked out with the weather, a brilliant blue sky all day! Congratulations Zoe and Anthony, hope you love your first few images...

Sue & Dave's Wedding

On Saturday, Sue & Dave tied the knot at Colwick Hall, with all their close friends and family around them. We started the day in the Lord Byron Suite, a massive bedroom that was plenty big enough for a bride, her three bridesmaids, two flowergirls, two makeup artists, a hairdresser and photographer...! The makeup was beautifully applied by Susan at Pretty Flamingo assisted by Kat. It was raining in the morning, and for most of the afternoon, which would have fazed most brides, but Sue remained calm and cool about it all - just as she did during their engagement shoot. We were blessed with a moment or two after the ceremony when it stopped and we photographed their confetti shower and then quickly took some shots in the gardens, before coming inside from the wind and drizzle. The lower light and interior of Colwick Hall has given their wedding images a gorgeous warmth, with regal golds and purple - and never so more in Colwick's gorgeous red hall of mirrors - where we photographed the back of the dress. Congratulations to Sue and Dave and a happy honeymoon!

Grange Cottage Family Celebration

A few of you may have noticed that I photographed my last two engagement photoshoots, with Sue & Dave and Zoe & Anthony, in a rather picturesque garden of a local B&B, and Grange Cottage in Farnsfield is owned and run by Jo and Jeremy. It's a lovely place to stay if you're visiting the area, or perhaps a guest at a local wedding, and the gardens are an oasis of calm. They were recently celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary with the whole family and I went to capture a few images. It was early evening when I arrived, and the sun was setting, which created a rather beautiful light and looked stunning with Jo's blue dress. Congratulations to them and wishing them many more happy years to come.

Jodie & Ollie's Wedding Day

Jodie and Ollie were married on Saturday at The Carriage Hall in Plumtree. They are one of the loveliest couples, and made for each other, and their day was a pleasure to be a part of. Ollie's gift to Jodie on the morning of the wedding were her earrings, made from diamonds from his grandmother's ring, and he found a very special sixpence for her shoe, also a family treasure, bearing a special date to them. This thought and care was echoed throughout the whole day. We started the day early in the morning with Jodie and her girls, with Susan at Pretty Flamingo doing Jodie's makeup, and she looked stunning, especially when she was buttoned into her Pronovias dress. Rebecca at Floraldeco arranged the flowers and bouquet, which were beautiful, in particular the flowergirl's rose wand, and the giant martini glasses at the reception filled with scented stocks, gerbera and roses, that were then gifted to close friends and family. We took off for a drive after the ceremony with Peter at Dennisson Classic Cars and their gorgeous ivory Jaguar, which features in some of my favourite photographs of the day. Special thanks to Peter for his assistance. A rather generous couple came out to offer their garden as a backdrop to some more photographs, before gifting Jodie and Ollie with a present. How lovely! When we got back to The Carriage Hall the caricaturist The Wedding Artist was hard at work and guests were showing off their likenesses. Jodie and Ollie's wonderful white chocolate cake was made by Karen at Baked To Perfection.

They are enjoying their honeymoon in Bali, but will no doubt be checking the blog, so happy honeymoon Jodie and Ollie, hope you love your first few wedding images...

Zoe & Anthony's Engagement Photographs

Zoe & Anthony came for their engagement photoshoot yesterday and I chose the gardens of my local B&B again for the backdrop, such a beautiful oasis, even complete with resident white doves! Zoe & Anthony brought their little boy with them, who'll be their pageboy on the big day. Zoe runs her own stationery company and is of course making all their wedding stationery. They get married at the end of October in Keyworth, with their reception at The Carriage Hall in Plumtree.

Sue & Dave's Engagement Photoshoot

Yesterday I photographed Sue and Dave's engagement photographs in the rather beautiful gardens of my local B&B. It was a beautiful, crisp Autumn day, except of course for ten minutes during the photographs when the heavens opened. Fortunately, Sue & Dave weren't as bothered by it as me and we carried on regardless! Thank you both of you. Sue and Dave booked me on a recommendation, being friends with Sarah & Dan who married earlier this year, and they will be tying the knot at Colwick Hall next month.

Jodie & Ollie's Engagement Photographs

We seem to be getting an early Autumn this year, I first noticed at last week's wedding, with plenty of lush green tinged with yellow-orange, and it creates a rather beautiful backdrop for photographs. I met up with Jodie and Ollie at the weekend at the very pretty Newstead Abbey park, in advance of their wedding at the end of month taking place the The Carriage Hall in Plumtree. I'm so happy to be their photographer, they were both very relaxed and happy to be themselves in front of the camera, which will make for gorgeous wedding photographs. We then went to The Hutt for drinks and wedding planning. These are my favourites from the engagement session.

Kim & Craig's Wedding

Kim & Craig were married at St John's Church in Hucknall, followed by a reception at Bestwood Lodge. The day started at Kim's parents, with Pretty Flamingo doing Kim's and her mum's makeup, and Binky the rabbit overseeing proceedings (who also featured on the top of the cake handmade by Kim's mum). We then joined everyone at the church, by which time big fluffy clouds and a perfect blue sky had appeared. After the ceremony, I knew exactly where I wanted to photograph Kim's amazing dress in the grounds of Bestwood... and I also knew it would need a change of footwear to get there. Thanks to Kim for being so wonderful, and I hope she agrees it was totally worth it! The whole family made sure the day ran smoothly and were very supportive. Wishing Kim and Craig a wonderful honeymoon.

Kate & Rob's Wedding

Kate & Rob were married at Woodborough Church with their reception at Woodborough Hall. It was a beautiful ceremony for close friends and family, with such a good atmosphere, followed by drinks in Woodborough Hall's gardens. I started the day at the church with the groom and I didn't get to see the bridal preparations, so when Kate turned up in her Pronovias dress and birdcage veil we all gasped - she looked amazing. And what a stunning dress to photograph! At special request, we had to finish with a 'stairway dress photo', to show it off cascading down Woodborough Hall's stairway. It was a pleasure to be a part of Kate and Rob's day, here are their first few images...

Kim & Craig's Engagement Shoot

Kim and Craig are getting married next month in Hucknall, followed by a reception at Bestwood Lodge, and they came for some engagement photos on Sunday at Newstead Abbey. We dodged the crowds who had come out to enjoy the sunshine, and had a relaxed half hour before heading off for drinks and wedding planning! Kim and Craig were more than happy to cuddle up or lark about for the photos, so the pictures are happy and natural: great job both of you!

Kate & Rob's Engagement Photos

Well we've had some freak weather this July, with some heavy rain and wind interrupting an otherwise warm and sunny month, and yesterday was one such wet-weather day, when Kate and Rob came for their engagement photographs! We went to Newstead Abbey, arriving in time for a very heavy shower. We braved on regardless so thank you to them both for this! Toward the end of the photoshoot the rain cleared and we had drinks in the nearby Hutt pub and planned out their wedding day, at Woodborough Church and Woodborough Hall at the end of the month. A Spoonful of Love - Sarah & Dan's Wedding

Sarah & Dan were married at Farnsfield church with reception at Norwood Park in Southwell, on a beautiful sunny day. Sarah wanted a English country wedding, with her grandmother's vintage teapots providing their "Spoonful Of Love" theme. As Sarah and I were friends in school, it was lovely to see some old faces, many of whom I'd not seen for 15 years. The day started in the bridal suite at Norwood with a glass or two of champagne, with Susan at Pretty Flamingo doing Sarah's beautiful make-up whilst I was looking through all Sarah's gorgeous accessories - check out those shoes! Then Dennisson Classics arrived to chauffeur the girls to the church for the ceremony, then back to Norwood again. Floraldeco provided the country reception flowers and bouquets.

Pregnancy Photoshoot

Tina came for a pregnancy photoshoot this week, gifted to her by Nadine whose wedding I photographed at Norwood Park recently. Tina was treated first to a makeup session by Susan at Pretty Flamingo, who created a naturally radiant look, then we took some pictures. Overall the sessions for mums-to-be last around two and a half hours including makeup and we try a few different clothing changes. Tina looks beautiful in her images, slim all over except for a perfectly formed bump! I hope she agrees how fabulous she looks!

Lia & Glen's Wedding Day

If there ever was an example of how inner beauty accentuates outer beauty, Lia is such an example. She made a stunning bride inside and out and it was a pleasure to work with her and Glen on their big day, and we captured some gorgeous images as a result. They chose a family and friends orientated day, with people travelling from Europe to be with them and it was relaxed and happy; a reflection of the couple themselves. The day started in their picture postcard cottage, with Susan at Pretty Flamingo assisted by Kat doing the girls' makeup. We then headed off to the Chequers Inn nearby in the Vale of Belvoir, a lovely pub that did a great job of their barbecue wedding breakfast! All the flowers were particularly beautiful, a choice of peonies, cala lilies and dendrobium orchids that looked amazing, by the very talented Grace at Zinnia Flowers It was perfect barbecue weather into the evening, although when we took the vintage jag down the lane to photograph Lia and Glen in front of Belvoir Castle, it threatened to rain - but in the end only enough to turn the sky a dramatic navy blue.

Clare and Stephen's Wedding Day

Clare and Stephen were married on Saturday, in a Catholic ceremony in Lincoln in one of the most beautiful churches I've seen, followed by their reception and wedding breakfast at Stubton Hall. It rained buckets as the bride was approaching the church, with heavy thunder clouds, then on arrival at Stubton the skies cleared and, just in time for the drinks reception, the wedding party were treated to sunshine and a brilliant blue sky. Holly & Olly's Wedding Day

Holly & Oliver were married on Saturday at Stoke Rochford Hall, a beautiful building and grounds with huge Orangery where they held their ceremony. While the girls were getting ready Olly sent up two bottles of pink champagne, which was very well received, and we photographed Holly in her gorgeous dress in the amazing bedroom window. It's true that they had one of the cutest flowergirls I have ever seen, their lovely little niece. Holly was escorted downstairs by her dad and she and Olly exchanged their vows in front of nearly 100 friends and family as a string quartet played. As the ceremony came to an end, nerves vanished and I love that I was able to capture the moment they were declared husband and wife, pure joy on their faces. As Oliver's best man and brother put it, Holly & Olly are perfect for each other; the only thing separating them is the letter H :-) Wishing them both an amazing honeymoon - hope they love these first few images.

Gemma brought her family for a group photoshoot, to capture four generations together and they also wanted some natural pictures outside too. We started in the studio, taking a fabulous group photograph and then braved the seriously high winds that day for as long as we could to capture a few images outside, and to include the family dogs too! Maria & Paul's Wedding

On Friday I photographed the beautifully lavish wedding of Maria and Paul held at Fawsley Hall in Northamptonshire. It was an intimate wedding with closest friends and family, with a single table at their wedding breakfast in Knightley Court for their 35 guests. Although by early afternoon the rain clouds were forming, by the end of the ceremony they were clearing and we were able to walk around Fawsley gardens for some photographs of Maria and Paul, while guests enjoyed champagne and canapes. We stopped to take photographs in front of the distant church with the lambs running around the fields and it was incredibly idyllic. Maria was a beautiful bride, and together with the backdrop at Fawsley Hall and those changing clouds this has made for some wonderful images with rich colours. Wishing them a fabulous safari honeymoon, I hope you both love your first few images. Louise and Dave's Wedding Day

Louise and Dave were married on Saturday at Cockliffe Hotel, and chose to have me there as their wedding photographer for two or three hours only, as their wedding day was so intimate and family orientated with just thirty special guests. I started in Louise's bedroom and captured Louise and their absolutely beautiful little girl Ella. I want to say thank you to Louise and Dave and their families, who were very warm and welcoming.

At the weekend I photographed Sarah and Dan for their engagement shoot, as they're getting married on 2nd July in their village church (and mine) followed by a reception at Norwood Park. This wedding is a little bit special to me, as I've known Sarah for about 25 years, she was my friend at Primary School and I was so pleased she and Dan chose me as their wedding photographer. They've also chosen a few of my favourite other suppliers, the very creative Rebecca at FloralDeco is providing their wedding flowers, the very talented Susan at Pretty Flamingo is going to be doing Sarah's makeup and Dennisson Cars are providing their stunning ivory Jaguar. So, despite all the windy weather during their engagement photos, which looks amazing with Sarah's hair but is never easy to model in, we captured these beautifully natural and happy images very quickly and I really hope they love them!

Lia & Glen's Engagement Photoshoot

On Monday I welcomed Lia and Glen to the farm to have their engagement photographs taken. Lia and Glen are getting married at the Chequers Inn at the end of June, with a barbecue wedding breakfast arranged, which will be lovely and relaxed, so here's hoping for fine weather on their big day too. On Monday it was bright sun but very, very windy, so we worked quickly before settling down to planning out their wedding day indoors! Lia and Glen are a really lovely couple, very happy and relaxed and I hope they love their images.

Nadine & Simon's Wedding

On Saturday I photographed the wedding of Nadine and Simon, which fell the day after the big Royal Wedding. Nadine certainly looked like a princess too; beautiful, totally graceful and calm. The day itself was full of picture-postcard prettiness, with a pale blue colour scheme, English roses and baby breath bouquets, a village church setting and a blue sky with not a cloud to be seen. The day actually started at The Old Vicarage in Southwell, where the girls got ready, opened presents, had their makeup done (by Susan at Pretty Flamingo assisted by Kat) and hair professionally styled. We made our way over to Elston church for a traditional ceremony, chauffeured by Dennisson Cars with their classic Daimler (blue of course) then back to Southwell at Norwood Park for photographs and reception. Nadine and Simon opted to have me stay for their first dance too, for which they'd practiced a fast routine and looked fab! Their favours were blue and white tea-towels with an image from their engagement shoot, to commemorate the 'Real Royal Wedding'! Congratulations to a Nadine and Simon, I know they're probably checking this blog on honeymoon so wishing them a wonderfully romantic holiday.

Maria & Paul came for their engagement photoshoot yesterday, and I have a feeling their wedding is going to be a particular highlight this year at the beautiful Fawsley Hall in Northamptonshire. I just love their elegant plans for the wedding day itself, with a late afternoon ceremony at the end of May and an intimate wedding of just 35 guests sharing one dinner table at the wedding breakfast. It wasn't easy selecting the very best of their engagement session as I loved a fair few, but here they are, with the emphasis being on beautiful, natural light to show a little of what's possible for their wedding day photographs - no flash or artificial lighting required, just a simple fast lens and reflector.

Clare & Stephen's Engagement Photoshoot

It was a beautiful 'spring-has-sprung' kind of a day when Clare and Stephen came for their engagement photoshoot, with the sun shining and the garden full of colour. I thought I'd make the most of the spring flowers, daffodils and tulips and have Clare and Stephen sit on a rug amongst them and get right down at flower level! They look great and resulted in happy photos not just because there was much giggling. I really am looking forward to their wedding at Stubton Hall in June. I met Clare and Stephen last year at Stubton Hall's first wedding fair and clicked straight away, and their wedding will undoubtedly be a classy affair. To Clare and Stephen: it was lovely to see you both again and also plan through your wedding timings together after the photoshoot, and I really hope you love your engagement photographs.

I photographed Holly and Oliver's engagement photographs yesterday, ready for their wedding on 4th June at Stoke Rochford Hall. Spring has definitely sprung and there was a riot of yellow pompoms on the bushes, which made a great backdrop. The wind was kicking up though, so I worked super quickly and we warmed up indoors afterwards with a hot drink and talked all things weddings! I just love these engagement photoshoots; not only does the couple get to have a little practice run, but I get to know every one of my couples in advance, and both these factors mean better wedding pictures. And how often to we get to have a photoshoot with the one we love, just because?

Cassie & Laurence's Wedding

Cassie and Laurence were married on Friday 4th March at Woodborough Hall in Nottinghamshire, and their wedding was small and very elegant, with beautiful flowers by Floral Dreams and personal touches, such as hand embroidered napkins. We started the day getting ready with the girls in the Brown Room, and I think Cassie looks simply amazing reclining on the faux fur throw - a photograph that I am proud to say belies the very low atmospheric light! I photographed Cassie and Laurence's engagement photographs back in January, so when it came to their wedding day they were naturals. It was a cold day though, so thank you to Cassie for braving the weather outside and being a relaxed bride! I'm so glad we were able to capture the wintry snowdrops in Woodborough Hall's garden. Afterwards we warmed up in the Orangery, and as the light fell the champagne was poured and Woodborough was lit by romantic candlelight. I should say that Laurence made their stunning wedding cake himself, hand decorated with his exquisite sugar paste roses, one of the most beautiful cakes I've seen and a labour of love for Laurence. Thank you to both families for being incredibly warm and welcoming and to Doug at Woodborough Hall for his hard work in ensuring the day flowed well. Nadine & Simon Engagement Photographs

It was a very dull, cloudy day on the farm when Nadine and Simon came over for their engagement photoshoot. Mother Nature wasn't up for much of a display so it was up to us to brighten the surroundings with a little love and laughter. I had some delightful 'love' letters hand cut from wood that look great, but as it turned out, Nadine and Simon were naturals and their happiness and affection made for some beautiful spontaneous photographs just as they were, no props needed. And I have to say Nadine is going to make a gorgeous bride, the second photograph down is my favourite and absolutely proves that. Let It Rain!

If your wedding is approaching and you're marrying in the UK, you will no doubt stop at some point to worry about the weather, look skyward and pray for sunshine! Even in the wind and rain I can take beautiful wedding images, the cloudy skies result in more flattering defused light – and the saying goes that rain represents the gods smiling on your marriage! However, despite this positive perspective it can still cause you stress on the day if provisions for bad weather haven’t been made. As a UK based wedding photographer, rain comes with the job and I make every effort to plan for all weathers. There are also a few significant measures you, as the bride and groom, can take to make sure it doesn't spoil your day, you make the best of the weather and you have amazing wedding photographs.

1. Choose an All-Weather (not a Fair-Weather) Venue

Some wedding venues I've photographed have no provision whatsoever if it rains. I once had to capture beautiful, intimate photographs of the couple in a small section of an adjoining conference room with guests spilling in and out to shelter from the elements. They loved their photos, but it was obviously more difficult for the couple to relax into this experience, when it should be one of the most enjoyable times of the day. With blustery rain outside and no other room to use, the venue coordinator just shrugged their shoulders.

Therefore, when you're choosing your venue ask about their bad weather strategy. The indoor space available will be full of guests in the event of rain, so is there extra space to have your photographs taken - away from your guests – in these circumstances? A venue with plenty of natural light, such as an Orangery or conservatory, can be just as good as being outside, without having to step into the wind or rain. Many wedding venues have wonderful entrances and grand porchways undercover yet open at the sides, which are perfect for your family photographs.

If you've already booked and paid for your venue, and can see it's a potential problem, ask if the venue would be prepared for you to put your own free-standing gazebos outside, which can be purchased quite inexpensively and decorated beautifully with flowers or bunting – with comfy chairs underneath as chill-out zones. Try the Garden and Outdoors section of www.amazon.co.uk for open sided gazebos or white party tents such as this white gazebo This also gives your smoking guests some protection, as well as allowing other guests to get some fresh air and not crowd the reception room.

2. Uh Oh! White Wedding Shoes and Wet Grass!

White satin or silk heels and the British weather are not overly compatible. There is nothing worse than sinking your cream heels into wet grass and staining them for good, especially if you chose to wear a pair of much coveted Jimmy Choos on your big day! If you suspect rain, there are a couple of options.

Wedding boots are great for winter weddings or cold weather, look good with a long dress, keep you warm and because they support your ankle they're likely to be more comfortable all-day. Rachel Simpson does a classy yet modern cut-away wedding boot with suede trim and leather heel.

Try the high street for a wedding shoe with a metal, plastic or leather heel, rather than the usual material or satin, which will wipe clean yet look just as elegant. Alternatively, protect your heels with this clever solution or slip these on after your ceremony when you step outside and stop that sinking feeling.

Another option is to have a spare pair of boots at the ready, or even wedding wellingtons! Then you can change footwear for your photos, hitch up your dress and have some fun in the elements, which makes for some wonderful, natural photographs and removes any stress about keeping your shoes as new. Opt for cream wellies for the bride and black for the groom, or pick a fun coloured or patterned pair of wellingtons to match your wedding theme.

3. Take Cover In Style

Hiring or buying umbrellas en masse may be a relatively low cost compared to the difference this can make to the comfort of you and your guests. Options are available online for both buying or hiring white umbrellas. As the bride, you should get to stand under something a little more special, and there are some stunning umbrellas that would look great in your wedding photographs. Some of my favourites can be found online:

Go for this wonderful cancan inspired umbrella for pretty-as-a-picture ruffles. This elegant parisian parasol looks summery but will also protect you from a light shower. I'm a little bit in love with all of the umbrellas in the glamorous Chantal Thomas range so choose the one that suits your wedding theme best. Beads add romance to this pretty umbrella and the white colour will light up your face in your photos. And finally, what could be more romantic than being photographed together with this love heart umbrella?

4. Brave the Elements!

Your wedding dress is possibly the most expensive item of clothing you’ve ever bought, so you’re understandably protective about it. You’ve taken ages to get ready, your hair and makeup is perfect and the dress and veil make it more difficult to maneuver in - so add rain and wind into the equation and some brides just prefer to stay indoors! Where brides won’t step outside in their dress, we still capture beautiful photographs inside, yet you cannot beat the beauty, variety and light available in the outdoors and I always love it when a couple are a little braver. I’ve had some wonderful brides in the past that did step outside and were so happy they did. Their dramatic images featured rolling black clouds, romantic ‘under the umbrella’ moments and fabulous lifted veils floating in the wind.

If you’re getting married in the winter or autumn months, invest in another layer. For luxurious warmth without weight, how about this cashmere cardigan in soft white or their wonderful pashmina shawl in the same colour. Alternatively the Makepiece Wedding Collection features some very beautiful, delicate designs in natural wool at very reasonable prices.

Try and relax about keeping your dress pristine, as almost every wedding dress, even in the hottest weather, picks up dirt and dust on the day. It will no doubt need a professional dry-clean no matter how careful you are. Most dresses are lined and when placed on the ground carefully they won't mark. I always work with a wonderful assistant who is also there to help carry your dress, position it perfectly, and make sure it won't hit the ground until it should! Sometimes we've used towels or blankets under the dress to protect it. And we work a whole lot faster in the rain! So it is possible to have wonderful wedding photographs knowing we take the greatest care of you and your dress - and if you're prepared to venture outside, you'll definitely be rewarded with more fabulous and varied images.

Sally & Craig's Wedding

On Sunday 23rd January Sally and Craig were married in a late afternoon ceremony at Woodborough Hall, watched by family and friends looking very glamorous in black tie. I was only with them for three hours, enough to capture their ceremony in the Orangery and their loved ones. Our 'Kiss The Bride Package' is perfect if you're getting married off season and, like Sally & Craig, you want beautiful photographs without a full day's coverage. It was a very cold and overcast day, but we stole them away for some photographs after the ceremony and made sure Sally had her stunning dress photographed on Woodborough Hall's stairway.

Last weekend Donna had her mum-to-be photoshoot with Mirror Imaging as she's expecting twin boys this coming April. After being treated to a makeover with Pretty Flamingo, we photographed her with a variety of looks and backgrounds so the images feel totally different: some bright and happy, some warm and fluffy and some sexy, but all celebrating her gorgeous bump. I have to say, she looks amazing pregnant with a gorgeous figure and also a natural radiance, which I think shines through in the images. It was a really relaxed and happy photoshoot and I especially love the first image capturing genuine laughter, such a wonderful moment. I hope Donna loves the images and her fiance loves his Christmas present (hence the Christmas bow!)

I was delighted to welcome Alison and Alan, whose wedding I photographed back in 2009, and their gorgeous new addition Brooke, for a Mum & Baby shoot at the weekend. Alison was treated to a makeup session with Pretty Flamingo, before mum and baby posed for the camera, first with fluffy cream rugs and then a dramatic black backdrop and electric blue dress for Ali, reminiscent of Madonna & Child. I loved their LOVE sign too, which worked beautifully. Brooke was incredibly curious about the studio lights, but in the end all that hard work modelling made for a very tired little baby, and she fell asleep, which allowed us to take some wonderful, peaceful photographs.

Emily and Simon were married on Saturday 11th September at The Carriage Hall in Plumtree. Their gorgeous colour scheme of blue and yellow, with some lovely, handmade personal touches to the wedding made for some beautiful images – especially as the sun defied all odds and shone all day with a stunning blue sky – except for a heavy rain shower right in the middle of their couple photos! This meant brollies (thank you Jo at Dennison Cars) and momentarily holding up traffic to have their photographs under the cover of trees, which turned out to be a special place for Emily and Simon, being their bike route together. I loved the sunflower bouquets, the beautiful vintage car driven by Jo, Susan’s (at Pretty Flamingo) makeup for Emily and Davina, the vibrant blue of the bridesmaid dresses, and that gorgeous cheese cake. Alison and Dominic were married on Sunday 29th August at Woodborough Hall. Alison was the epitome of Grace Kelly elegance and the camera just loved her! We started the day in West Bridgford with bridal preparations and moved on to Woodborough for the ceremony and reception. Despite the pouring rain early on, the clouds cleared and we had the brightest sunshine in the afternoon. Alison and Dom are clearly very much in love, so the photographs were so natural, beautiful and a pleasure to take. Carly & Stefan's Wedding

On Saturday I was at Norwood Park in Nottinghamshire, one of my favourite venues, for Carly and Stefan’s wedding day. I just absolutely loved photographing their wedding, not only because Carly now feels like an old friend, but also because their day was the epitome of all things romantic, from the pink theme and rose bouquets, to her vintage pearl jewellery, to that fabulous Hollywood Dreams dress, to all the personal touches that they’d put so much thought into – their amazing table bouquets for example, each one tagged for a loved family member to take home. The day began at The Old Vicarage, where the girls got ready, with Susan at Pretty Flamingo doing Carly’s wedding makeup (natural radiance was the brief – definitely achieved). We then relocated with hair and makeup done, with much less clutter and stuff (a simple idea that worked well) to Norwood Park’s honeymoon room to photograph Carly being laced into her dress. Throughout the whole day there was a real sense of generosity and creative talent, with friends and family having helped to make the cake, stationery, style Carly and her maids’ hair, organise the flowers (by Pam Gibson) and make gorgeous cupcakes as place settings. Wedding flowers and their meaning...

I am fascinated by all things weddings and the importance of symbolism to make your day that little bit more personal and significant. The meaning or 'language' of flowers known as floriography goes back many years, when flowers used to be sent as messages, not just to say "I love you". Weaving these meanings into your wedding flowers seems to be a very romantic way to make your declaration of love even more personal. And the colours and vibrance of your flowers can set your wedding theme like nothing else. So, in the coming weeks, I hope to feature some wedding bouquets I've photographed in the past with their special meanings, which might just help you to choose your bouquet or even your entire wedding theme. To start, a rather different but special combination particularly suited to a relaxed, pretty, country wedding. This isn't a bouquet, it's straight from my garden, but would look stunning on a larger scale in a hand-tied posy. Daisies symbolise loyalty; Lavender (both English and French) means devotion; Rosemary means fidelity and devotion. So this combination is perfect to promise one another you'll stay true and always be each other's closest ally. And with yellow and purple sitting opposite on the colour wheel they look amazing together, as well as creating a rather wonderful scent.

It's been a while since my last blog post. I've been very busy with personal projects, one of which is a brand new collection of fine art canvas prints. The first edition of a new print, entitled Red Rose, was a gift to my sister and her new husband for their wedding day, and I was so pleased with the result I thought I'd offer these to everyone. Slightly smaller than my other canvases, at a very displayable 20x20 inches, they are created using a die-sublimation process, which dips the textured cloth in ink, rather than coating it like much cheaper inkjet canvas prints. (This means it lasts longer without the usual cracking or fading.) The result is a beautiful piece of fabric art, featuring a square format image wrapped all the way round the frame. For just £150. I hope you love them as much as I do. Here is the first of the roses in all it's glory. It was just a shame I couldn't photograph the scent too!

Lyndsey and James's Wedding

Last Saturday we were at Lyndsey and James’s very English wedding in the rain at the beautiful St James’s Church in Papplewick and The Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel, Southwell. Lyndsey’s pretty pink colour scheme featured a bouquet of baby pink roses and peonies, gorgeous Cath Kidson favours and the palest blush made-to-measure silk dress. The rainy day turned the outside a lush green and guests were a sea of umbrellas as they arrived at the church. In the afternoon, Lyndsey and Jim escaped to the warm comfort of the hotel’s lounge for photographs, canapés and champagne! Wishing Lyndsey and James a very happy honeymoon.

Riverbank Restaurant Photography

Thursday night I was at the brand new Riverbank Restaurant on Trent Bridge finishing their series of promotional photographs for their new website and branding. It followed on from the gorgeous food photography taken the other week, and this time I was capturing the interior and exterior as the first few customers were welcomed in. Having its own deli counter, the Riverbank caters for all those working in Nottingham who want to relax after 5pm with drinks and nibbles, and also features a huge elegant dining space if you want a more formal meal with head chef Mark overseeing some stunning dishes. The outdoor patio area gives the restaurant space 'wow' factor and is reminiscent of being in the Mediterranean, with outdoor lighting, box hedging and bamboo plants bordering the integrated seating... all with a magnificent elevated view of the river.
